dc.description.abstract "We cannot get rid of tradition, murder it however we may" said Edwin Lutyen while talking about tradition. Tradition and culture are the pride of a community. The society looses its identity if the tradition is suppressed. The Traditional Domestic Architecture of any country is a thorough reflection of its culture. It naturally speaks of the standard and mode of living of the people, their taste, the manners and customs etc. that is the reason why a study of the Domestic Architecture of any country is of the greatest importance. Every nation develops its own Architectural style according to the climatical, geological, social and religious conditions prevailing in the country. The political condition in which the country is, form time to time also has an effect on its Architecture. Only factors such as climatic and social conditions remain almost unchanged. But with a change in other factors the Architecture goes on slowly developing its different characteristics in the different countries. India is a very vast country, in fact a continent, as some geographers say. India can be divided into so many different parts according to climate, rainfall, the nature of soil and such other factors. Though the religion of the majority is the same, different languages and different manners and customs have made these different parts of India develop their own characteristics. In the historic and prehistoric periods also India was divided into many kingdoms and was very rarely under one supreme power. The condition in which the different parts of India were, in the historical period had a great effect on the Architecture of that locality. en_US
