dc.description.abstract Ever since the dawn of human civilization, there has been a constant tug of war between human being and nature. Nevertheless, man, with his creative mind and determination has always been able to make his environment adaptable to him. Even before 3000 B.C. , man was able to reclaim the sandy deserts of Egypt and Mesopotamia. The Western Rajasthan is the extension of 'North Subtropical Desert Belt' starting from north-west Africa. The area was, once, quite flourishing and ,full of human habitation. The present arid landscape is mainly natural and partly man made. The desert has been created by the extreme aridity of the area with .its extremes of temperature and lack of humidity which, over a long period, have resulted in the weathering of rocks. The process was further helped by man by his improvident methods of exploitation of the environment....................... en_US
