dc.description.abstract The phenomenon of resonance fluorescence in atomic systems' and nuclear systemsa has been known for many years. Previous to MOsibauerls discover? the following methods were employed to compensate for the nuclear recoil so as to achieve resonance absorption of /Crays: (a) Centrifuges. The emitter or the target was mounted on a centrifuge which is mechanically rotated with such a speed as to,compensate for the nuclear recoil. The required speeds are of the order of 105 cm/sec. (b) Heat4. Thermal motion is used to compensate for the recoil. en_US
