Abstract:
The Chandi Devi temple is located in the northeastern part of the Haridwar. The geotechnical investigations have been taken up to evaluate the stability of the hill slopes around Chandi Devi hill slopes. For that purpose, initially geological mapping on 1:10000 scales was carried out. The rocks of the study area are mainly of sandstone. The lithological as well as structural information's has been collected during field investigations. The engineering properties of the rock also collected from all rock exposures. The joint data has been collected during field investigations. To find out the preferred orientation of discontinuities, this data has been plotted on an equal area stereonet. The Uniaxial compressive strength, point load lump strength and unit weight have been determined in the laboratory. In all, four sections were studied by kinematic analysis. It shows the mode of failure in the study area is planar failure. In all, three sections shows chance of planar failure and one section is stable. From the determination of factor of safety under dry condition, it has been observed that one section is critically stable and other sections are stable. After that, recommendation suggested for increase the stability of the hill slopes.
