Abstract:
Aluminiu . bronzes, particularly thos e approaching the eutectoid composition are very promising alloys as future engineering materials because of the combination of various useful properties like corrosion resistance and possibility of heat-treating like stools. Thoy possess moderately high strength and hardness with adequate ductility in tempered condition* Horever, the intergranular brittle fracture and low modulus of elas-tioity of its martensite restricts its commercial appli-cation.
The effect of silver as ternary element was studied in a bid to make the alloy more usable. 8i1ver having larger atomic diameter than the Cw-Al euteatoid, is expected to improve the mechanical proper tics and also avoid the intergranular brittle fracture by preventing the , segregation of aluminium atom at the ,;rain boundary.
