dc.description.abstract Thio dissertation is prepared to give up-to-date information about the solar cells and its application in the solar electrical energy conversion system in the context of the prevailing energy crisis. In the first chapter a brief introduction about the 3olar Energy, its availability, collection, storage and its overall potential as a viable energy source is dealt. • In the second chapter the indirect conversion of sun energy into electricity is described in which first the water is heated and converted into steam with the help of sun energy uning focussing system and then the electricity is generated uith the help of turbine etc. In third chapter direction conversion of sun energy into electricity is described. Also the flow chlrt is given to calculate the number of solar cells required to be connected in Dorian and parallel for the required power supply. In chapter four, silicon solar cells are described, Ito fabrication technique ,Ind the characteristic curves are also given. In chapter five Hato-chemical solar cell is dealt. In it the heat effect of oun raja is used to ionize Salle-0a an electrolytic solution and hence givins rise to potential difference between the electrodes. In Chapter six, the performance of solar cell in given. Its equivalent circuit is drawn and the effect of temperature, focussing system etc., are discussed. In chapter seven, conclusion and future suggestions and applications are given. en_US
