Abstract:
In this dissertation, four di erent ferrite based nanomaterials have been synthesised
and analyzed. Combustion method has been followed for synthesis of manganese fer-
rite(MF), calcium ferrite (CF) and cobalt ferrite (CoF) nanomaterials. Solid state route
has been applied for the preparation of CF-CoF based nanocomposite (CC). All chosen
raw materials and processes are cost e ective. Structural analysis and EM character-
ization has been carried out for all materials to ascertain their e ectiveness as radar
absorbing materials. Matlab code has been developed to study the re
ection loss o ered
by these materials in the 8-12 GHz frequency band (X-band) for di erent thicknesses. CF
yields minimum coating thickness while CC exhibits the broadest absorption BW out of
all four materials. To further improve the absorbing properties of single layer absorbers,
advanced EM technique of frequency selective surfaces (FSS) has been investigated. Two
di erent FSS structures have been simulated with the nanocomposite (sample CC) as
substrate. Out of cross dipole and convoluted patch FSS, the latter yields excellent ab-
sorption properties with a substrate thickness of 2.5 mm and absorption BW of 3.6 GHz
in the X-band.
