dc.description.abstract During metallic zinc extraction from zinc Sulphide or sulphide ore ,huge quantity of Jarosite is being released universally as solid residue. Jarosite waste released from hydrometallurgical operations mainly consists of iron, sulphur, zinc, calcium and aluminum which are also part of cement. The material was collected from the disposal area from Debari, Hindustan Zinc Limited, Rajisthan. A series of laboratory investigation were carried out to study its feasibility for use in production of pavement quality concrete. Partial replacement of cement was done with Jarosite. Six mixes of concrete were designed for M40 grade concrete in accordance with IRC:44-2008. Percentage of Jarosite was varied as 0%, 5%, 15%, 20% and 25% by weight of cement. The effect of Jarosite on the mechanical properties and durability were investigated. Apart from studying the material individually. Fresh as well as hardred properties along with chemical composition and microstructure studies were carried out using XRF and SEM images. When compared to control mix, encouraging results were obtained. The other aspect of concrete i.e. durability has been found satisfactory. The concrete with 15% Jarosite as cement replacement was found to be most feasible and optimum replacement for road construction taking in to account the various properties en_US
