dc.description.abstract Particle segregation is a key operation in most of the industrial applications like pharmaceutical, cement and food industries. Thus, this work reviews the mechanism of particle segregation inside a horizontal rotating cylindrical drum. The work encompasses the prediction of the particle segregation characteristics via Discrete Element Method (DEM) using an open source code platform. Through this work, the preferential segregation of bi-disperse size distribution systems containing cubes, spheres and ellipsoids is highlighted. The simulation runs were performed in rolling mode. The varying segregation ratio of the systems were explained by blockiness parameter and sphericity of the particle. It was observed that percolation brings small particles down the bed forming a central radial core. en_US
