dc.description.abstract Ni-based alloys are a special class of engineering material with excellent corrosion resistance in harsh environments. However, microstructural changes due to the solidification, may result in solidification cracks and reduction in the corrosion resistance. Knowing the micro chemical and microstructural evolutions during the solidification of these alloys is essential for the understanding of the relationship between the metallurgical aspects and the properties. In this study, Microstructure characteristics of the base sample and weld sample of inconel 625 superalloy is studied by using optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and x-ray diffraction. The results showed that there was no segregation of any element along grain boundary. Further analysis is carried out by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) which showed similar results in case of base material but in case of weld material, Si segregate at specific region were observed. The mechanical behaviour of inconel 625 superalloy is also studied by carrying out hardness and tensile test en_US
