Abstract:
The durability has gain utmost important for the serviceability at the reasonable costs. Low
durable materials later incur the additional cost for repair and retrofitting. The porous nature of
concrete, the vulnerability of steel reinforcement to corrosion and slight incompatibility
between the two leads to deterioration of reinforced cement concrete. This deterioration is
caused by external and internal factors like aggregates used, water/cement ratio, type of
reinforcement and casting methods. The durability performance of nominal strength concrete
with incorporation of micro and nano silica has been inspected and key durability parameters
has been calculated and the conclusions has been drawn based on the parameters calculated.
These parameters have been compared to understand the improved durability performance by
pozzolanic addition. The service life of these mixes in atmospheric marine zone has been
calculated by using Life 365 model. The service life is affected by different parameters like
chloride surface concentration, chloride threshold value, cover, apparent diffusion coefficient.
The diffusion coefficient has been obtained from non-steady state migration coefficient by
using fib model. The effect of parameters on service has been studied thoroughly.
