dc.description.abstract This dissertation report on “Efficient Management of Electrical Energy Systems in Sewage Treatment Plants” addresses the description of Electrical Energy requirements in different components of Sewage Treatment Plants and various methods, techniques, equipment’s and tools used for saving electrical energy and increasing efficiency of the system. For this dissertation report four STP’s situated at Varanasi, Lucknow and Haridwar were visited. Treatment technologies covered in this report are activated sludge process, fluidised aerobic bed process and sequencing batch reactors. For improving the energy efficiency at STP, aeration process of the plant, pumping and other motor driven loads were the main area of attention. For reducing the energy consumed by the aeration system more efficient fine pore bubble aerators were preferred. Also, in plants where the flow rate of influent keeps on varying throughout the day installing variable frequency drives was recommended for energy saving on motor driven load. Variable frequency drive (VFD) model for 10HP motor is simulated using MATLAB Simulink to show that VFD is an effective tool for increasing energy efficiency of motor driven loads. en_US
