Abstract:
This dissertation report deals with the design and performance analysis of a simple but efficient photovoltaic water pumping system for drinking water supply in remote area. It provides theoretical studies and modeling techniques by using equivalent electric circuits of all components i.e. Photo Voltaic Panel, DC-DC converter, Maximum Power Point Tracking, DC motor and Water pump. In this work, two types of system are simulate, Direct coupled SPV water pumping system and a system employs the maximum power point tracking (MPPT). The investigation includes the discussion of MPPT (P & O) algorithms. The modeling of each system is done to simulate the whole system in MATLAB. It employs SIMULINK to model a DC pump motor, Photo Voltaic Module, DC-DC converter and MPPT with P & O algorithm. MATLAB simulations verify the system and functionality of its component. Simulations also make comparisons of the system with and without MPPT in terms of output of a PV module taken in this work. The results validate that MPPT can significantly increase the efficiency and the performance of PV water pumping system as compared to the system without Maximum Power Point Tracker
