GIS BASED RURAL ROAD NETWORK PLANNING WITH REFERENCE TO VIZIANAGARAM DISTRICT OF A.P.

Abstract

For sustainable rural development, the need of the hour is judicious, reasonable and planned use of the finite resources of land according to their natural state. To cater this need, development of road network for the overall agriculture development and there by poverty reduction has been conceived. Development of efficient rural road network is not only the solution for all the problems those cause hindrance to rural development, but tackles the cause of the problem itself. For the balanced development of rural India, roads play a vital role and hence they must be given priority rather than concentrating only on the urban roads. Economic development and rural modernization have become synonymous and are integral part of regional planning of a country. Therefore, in an ideal situation all the villages have to be connected with an all weather road network so that the rural people will have proper access to market, education and health facilities. Pusapatirega block of Vizianagaram district of A.P has been taken as the study area for the present study. The road network has been developed by using a Geographical Information Systems. Along with village & Road Information System is also developed with an objective to access further planning processes easily. The study relies upon the database procured for this purpose from various organizations like Andhra Pradesh Geo Spatial Data Centre, Hyderabad, District land records office of Vizianagaram district and Panchayat Raj Engineering Department of Vizianagaram district.
