dc.description.abstract In this dissertation an attempt has been made to study the abnormal conditions caused due to loss of excitation of a generator in the power system. The variation in the current, voltages, machine speed, torque, slip and effect on system stability is studied. The methods available for such studies are discussed • with their features. The digital computer technique has been adopted by us. The dependance of asynchronous characteristic on • transmission system is considered in predicting the system behaviour i.e., (a) wheather the system is to be tripped off during loss of excitation, (b) how long the system can with stand without any damage. The techniques for study of power system stability are discussed. The asynchronous operation and its causes and resynehronization of generator has also been discussed. The models of the system and its components are derived and analysis of the system with the loss of excitation of a generator is carried out by determining the generator performance and the effect on system stability for practical power system. en_US
