dc.description.abstract I the following pages an effort has been made to present a comprehensive picture on some of the aspects of power system interconnections. The basic elementary theory of probability applied to non-interconnected and Inter-connected systems have been discussed$ and the significance of conventional methods of outage probability calculation has been illustrated.. Computer programs have been developed for finding probability of capacity outages,# adding units and then rounding across a suitable increment. A ropresenta-tive example is considered having two systems, and risk levels are calculated for each system individually on non-.sinter- connected basis and then on an interconnected basis by the application of loss of load probability method. The results are compared and benefits of interconnection is shown. The role of computers and development of computer programs for further probabilistic stuc)y of interconnected systems on a larger scale has been stressed. The need and scope for further research have been indicated. en_US
