dc.description.abstract Experimentally the welding stress and distortion developed during the welding of Micro-alloy HSLA steel plates has been studied. The magnitude of deflection, shrinkage, transverse shrinkage stress and bending stress generated during welding under the unrestrained welding of butt joint is the main objective of the study. Effect of variation of weld area has been studied. Effect HAZ width has been studied. The tensile properties of weld metal have been studied. Weld area has been varied by using different groove. In the present investigation, micro-alloy HSLA steel plates of 16mm thick are used. Single V groove along with conventional groove and narrow groove are used as joint designs for welding these plates. Effect of variation of weld areas respect to the stresses developed is studied be varying the welding processes. GMAW continuous current and pulsed current had been studied. From the study it has been observed that pulsed current GMA welding is advantageous than continuous current GMA welding. It is also observed about the beneficial of narrow groove design over conventional groove design in 16mm thick plates. iii en_US
