Abstract:
Failures of boiler in Thermal Power Plant are the most criticized area now a day. Everyday the country is losing a good amount of power due to shut down of the boilers. This failure has a tremendous effect on the national economy. The cumulative effects become so much that; it is very difficult to bear by the developing country like India. Hence it became necessary to predict and restrict those failures, so that action could be taken in time. This requires the analysis of the failures.
Boiler tubes of coal fired thermal power plants, subjected to prolonged

exposure at elevated temperature and pressure, continue to loose their load
bearing capacity due to accumulation of severe damage. The corrosion damages - at the inner and outer surfaces of the tubes are responsible for reduction in the tube thickness. Main corrosion problems in coal-fired power plants are the waterside corrosion of inner wall tubes of boiler and the oxidation/ sulphidation and hot corrosion of outer walls of boiler tubes. The former is well understood and can be controlled by controlling the chemistry of feed water, the fire side corrosion is little more complicated and is a function of several variables, both operating condition and materials...
