dc.description.abstract In this Dissertation report, a relatively easy method to synthesize pure, stable, stoichiometric nanocrystalline I-lydroxyapatite i.e. Ca3(PO4)6(OH)2 (HAP) at low temperature by ethanol based sol—gel route, has been presented. For the synthesis of Ilydroxyapatite, equimolar solutions of Ca(NO3)2.4H20 and (NH4)21IP04 were dissolved in ethanol at 85 °C and the product so formed was sintered at three different temperatures, i.e. 400 °C, 750 °C and 1200 °C. These sintered samples along with the as prepared sample were then characterized by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform IR spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDAX) and Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA)/Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA) for checking the formation and quality of desired product, for checking its stability at higher temperatures and for microstructural and compositional analysis. en_US
