dc.description.abstract The thesis embodies the study of analytical solutions of some problems of biomechanics relating to blood flow under some normal/diseased conditions. It consists of nine chapters. First chapter is an introductory and deals with the fundamentals of the subject matter of the thesis. From a physiological point of view, the effects of blood flow have been studied using mathematical models. In Chapter-II, an analysis has been carried out to study the peristaltic transport of two layered viscous incompressible fluid. The properties of the coats along the tube or artery wall are different from those of fluids being pumped. Physically pumping by peristalsis is effected primarily by frictional forces. It is assumed that for any wave shape, fluid will be pumped when the tube is sufficiently occluded by the travelling waves. Velocities, flux, limitation of flux, friction force and resistance of flow have been determined using analytical method. Equation of sixth degree polynomial for the interface has been studied by Newton-Raphson method. The characterization parameters such as fluid behavior index, resistance of flow, wave amplitude, the speed of the peristaltic wave and the fluid motion play a role in the effective positive pumping. Flow visualization is made using peristaltic pump [PP 20] in the experimental setup by fabricating two test sections to analyze the progressive waves, the transport of fluid blocks and the velocity profile... en_US
