dc.description.abstract The present study explains the corrosion behavior of thermo-mechanically treated 2014 Al-alloy samples. It includes the advantages of thermo-mechanical ageing on 2014 Al-alloy samples and after that the effect of different corrosion environments on 2014 Al-alloy. In the present investigation the behavior of 2014 Al-alloy has been studied in 3.5 wt% NaCI solution for 30 days in steady state conditions and for 48 hours in accelerated condition. The effect of thermo-mechanical ageing has been investigated on the rate of corrosion and it has been compared to the alloy in peak aged and as quenched conditions. Maximum rate of corrosion is found in peak aged conditions and minimum in as-quenched and TMA IIb conditions. The pitting corrosion could be identified in all the cases after examination of the substrate. The pitting corrosion was maximum in TMA treatments but the weight loss was maximum in peak aged condition. Peak aged samples were found to have general corrosion than the pitting corrosion. Inter-granular corrosion increased with the increase in ageing time and it was much more in TMA treatments than the peak aged. The higher rate of corrosion in peak aged, TMA Ia and TMA ha has been correlated with the distribution of dispersoids and CuAl2 Phase. en_US
