Abstract: | This thesis is an experimental work of initiation of motion and characteristics of bedload motion. The main objective of the study is to take bedload sediment data of the channel experimentally. The bed load transport has been the subject of extensive research for last century. The present day knowledge of the subject is that one may hope bed load transport of uniform sediment to a fair degree of accuracy and little experimental work has been performed in bed load transport field. The study was carried out to collect experimental data on the bedload sediment transport over a wide range of flow conditions and different slopes of trapezoidal channel. In this study, the experiments were performed on the advanced hydrology study system apparatus in ground water laboratory of the hydrology department. The straight trapezoidal channel was prepared on the model catchment of apparatus. The dimensions of the channel were 2.0 m in length, 0.10 m bottom width, 0.12 m top width, and 0.05 m depth of channel. The observations of bed load transport rate were taken between slope ranging 0 — 5 % and four different flow rates. The grain size distribution has been done for the bed load material ranging from 0.5 mm to 1.1 mm. |
