Issue Date: 2009
Abstract: Modelling and simulation of small hydro power plants helps in studying the dynamic response of the hydraulic systems, governor and electrical systems associated with the plant. It also helps in studying the stability of the system and the co-ordination of governor parameters with those of the hydraulic and electrical systems for optimal selection. In this dissertation work, simulation of a small hydroelectric plant has been performed to study its behaviour under various conditions. The various components of small hydro power plant like penstock, valve, surge tank, Francis turbine, Synchronous generator, PID governor and exciting system for generator have been considered for simulation. The simulation of small hydro power plant has been performed in SIMULINK/MATLAB. Using the developed simulation model, the dynamic and transient behaviour of small hydro power plant can be studied when subjected to disturbances like load addition, load removal and different fault conditions()-0, 2-¢,3-¢ short circuit
