dc.description.abstract | With the estimated potential of small hydro power (SHP) of about 15,000 MW in India, there are about 500 SHP plants in operation and about 40-50 plants are expected to be commissioned annually. Without skilled manpower, it seems to be difficult to completely harness the energy confined in flowing water. Proper training plays a vital role in acquiring skill through a deep knowledge of the behaviour of SHIP plants and their dynamics, Nowadays, SHP simulators are being used to provide the training to SHP plant personnel by virtually creating different operating conditions of the plant Real time digital simulator (RTDS) is a special kind of simulator which provides a realistic simulation of SHP plants with regard to system response in time domain. Real-time simulation can avoid inadvertent plant outages caused by human error, equipment overload, etc. Real-time simulation provides an environment that is effective for operator training and assistance. Compared to traditional training methods, operator training is accelerated using dynamo gra local simula 'a f SHP- A RTDS for SF1P plants (Low Head, Canal Based with Semi-Kaplan Turbine and Induction generator and Medium Head, with Francis turbine and Synchronous generator) is already available at AHEC, IIT ROORKEE. This simulator has been studied under the present work. In the present dissertation work, a simulator for high head small hydropower (SHP) plant has been developed to study the behavior of plant. First, modelling of different components of high head SHP plant viz. weir, power channel, pelton turbine, governor and generator have been presented and then, these models have been used to simulate the high head SHP plant under the environment of ALICES. The developed simulator has been tested under various operating conditions | en_US |
