Abstract: Hybrid power systems that combine two or more energy conversion devices, or two or more fuels for the same device, that when integrated, overcome limitations inherent in either. The different hybrid systems becoming popular for remote area power generation applications due to advances in renewable energy technologies and subsequent rise in prices of petroleum products. A hybrid energy system usually consists of two or more renewable energy sources used together to provide increased system efficiency as well as greater balance in energy supply. To protect environment and for sustainable development, the importance of renewable energy sources can not be overemphasized. Though conventional sources might last little longer, it is question not of only availability but also affordability. Stand-alone units are already in operation at many plantations/colonies though the availability of Biomass, solar, hydro or wind energy is not continuous. Isolated operation of these power units may not be effective in terms of cost, efficiency and reliability. A viable alternative solution is by combining these different renewable energy sources to form a system called hybrid energy system. Hybrid energy systems are pollution free, takes low cost and less gestation period, user and social friendly. Such systems are important sources of energy for shops, schools, and clinics in village communities especially in remote areas. A system using a combination of these different sources has the advantage of balance and stability that offers the strengths of each type of sources that complement one another. In this thesis we have discussed different Hybrid Energy Systems and their applications as well as cost effectiveness with respect to available resources from different renewable energy systems. In this there is a collection of data's of the several villages of the district Saharanpur to fulfill the Electricity requirement of the villages (Study Area) by the help of available resources i.e, biomass, solar and diesel. In this we have to calculate the cost of generation form several resources then after we have to optimize them with the help of a software i.e, LINGO 10, which is optimization software.
