Abstract: In the fast growing energy demand there is a big necessity to develop energy from all possible energy sources. Hydro Sources being a proven and reliable, finds a good share of energy sources in the state of Maharashtra. SHP sites by utilizing all possible hydro sources in the Maharashtra State have been developed. Thus preparation of Master Plan of potential SHP sites by identifying all possible sites by giving priority which can be used as a ready reference by the prospective developers (government, society, private etc.) is a necessary. For systematic, time bound, duly shared between Government, Social and Private Sectors, Such master plan is required. This master plan provides the details about the following. • Inventory of all possible SHP sites. • Priority or ranking of each site. • Financial requirement for development. Created such details may be spatial database using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) incorporating various themes of identified SHP sites for the state is recommended. Maharashtra State provides its opponent of potential small hydropower site for development. The Present work is an attempt to create master plan of SHP sites for Maharashtra State. A total of 221 sites have been identified. The total estimated potential of all the sites is about 600 MW Sites are located in the varied geographical and climatic conditions in the state SHP sites are with varied energy generation and cost per MW. Cost of SHP plant comprises of civil works and electromechanical works has been estimated based on the cost trend of similar projects explain in the part A Sensitivity Analysis has been carried out for randomly selected three sites under different conditions such as Rainfall resulting change in stream flow which affects power generation and Change in electricity tariff to give the confidence to purchaser, developer and Financial Institutions. Various themes like Forest cover, Road network, Drainage network, SHP sites, all Hydropower plants have been brought on GIS platform using Arc View GIS (9.0) software.
