Abstract: In this dissertation, the design of wideband single patch E-shaped microstrip antenna is described. Wide bandwidth is achieved by choosing E-shape structure. An air- gap has been used to achieve a larger VSWR bandwidth. Air-gap also helps in impedance matching of linearly polarized antenna. First of all, the effects of various geometrical parameters for single patch antenna have been studied. The finally designed single E-shaped patch antenna geometry has bandwidth of 23% and gain of 8 dB. Two and four port Butler matrix is designed for 2 x 1 and 4x 1 array antenna for the generation of multiple beams. For this Butler matrix components are studied and designed. The 2x 1 array antenna is simulated and fabricated with dielectric substrate material. The 2x 1 array antenna has the maximum bandwidth of 33% and gain of 10 dB. Finally, the 4x I array antenna is simulated in Zealand's Electromagnetic simulation tool. The maximum bandwidth obtained in 4x 1 array antenna is 43%. Different ports have different bandwidth in 4x 1 antenna array. The maximum simulated gain of 4x 1 array antenna is 12 dB.
