|Abstract:||With the Internet explosion and rapid growth in multiple-PC homes, the demand to send digital voice, video, and Internet data to and around a home has been increasing continuously. Among the wired networks, Power line communication (PLC) presents a "no new wires" solution with the additional advantages of ubiquitous node availability, easy installation and above all, cost effectiveness. Varying levels of impedance and attenuation due to switching of electrical equipments are frequent in power line channel. Multipath fading, time varying interference and noise from various sources lead to very poor performance of the system. In this dissertation work, BER performance of DMT has been evaluated for a PLC system. The power line has been modeled as an access link as well as an indoor channel. To observe the effect of Impulsive noise, a simulation model based on statistical properties of Impulsive noise has been used. To study the performance degradation, two noise environments have been considered: one containing AWGN only and the other containing AWGN as well as Impulsive noise. The effectiveness of coding and interleaving to enhance the performance in presence of channel anomalies has also been examined.|
