dc.description.abstract | The Event Service of the Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) provides a decoupled and asynchronous communication model between distributed object components. However, the standard Event Service specifications lack important features like load balancing and scalability. Therefore, the applications in which a large number of objects need to communicate via an Event Service channel suffer from poor performance. In this thesis a generic CORBA based framework is proposed to tackle this scalability problem. The proposed framework is a small scale prototype of the SCARCE (SCAlable and Reliable Corba Event-service) model, which is based on multi-agent based load balancing. In this thesis two improvements over SCARCE namely, domain partitioning and adaptive channel switching are suggested. Both the features have never been applied to Event Service to improve load balancing. Different dimensions are explored underlying the design of load balancing algorithm and experiments are conducted to evaluate their impact on the overall performance of the framework. The results provide some useful insights into the improvement of the scalability of the. Event Service. The proposed framework is implemented using Java2 (J2sdkl.4. 1) on Windows 2000 Server with Visibroker 4.5 CORBA Object Request Broker (ORB.) The IDE used for program development is JCreator version 1.5.2. | en_US |
