dc.description.abstract | Mobile IP enables a networked device to change its point of point of attachment with minimum service disruptions. It enables a device change its link layer point of attachment without changing its IP address. Mobile IP protocol offers two support services, Agent Discovery and Registration. In this thesis an implementation of agent discovery mechanism of Mobile IP has been done. Agent Discovery is the mechanism in which a home agent is a router in the native network of the mobile node and a foreign agent is a router in the visited network may advertise theiravailability on each link for which they provide service. A newly arrived mobile node can send a solicitation on the link to learn if any prospective agents are present. Agent discovery is achieved through the extension in the ICMP router advertisement fields defined in Mobile IP protocol. Registration of the mobile node has also been implemented. This process includes implementation of registration request generation, authentication and registration reply generation by foreign agent. Registration is the mechanism in which the mobile node, which is away from home, registers its care-of address with its home agent. Depending on its method of attachment, the mobile node will register either directly with its home agent, or through a foreign agent, which forwards the registration request to the home agent. The implementation is compliant with the standard Mobile IP protocol, and has been done in C under Red hat Linux 7.1 environment. It has been tested on-a dedicated test network setup using, 6 Linux machines and a router on Windows XP. | en_US |
