Mobile IP is a mechanism for maintaining transparent network connectivity to mobile hosts. Mobile IP protocol enables a mobile host to be addressed by the IP address it uses in its home network (hone IP address), regardless of the network to which it is currently physically attached. Therefore, ongoing network connections to a mobile host can be maintained even as the mobile host is moving from one subnet to the other. Simple Network Management Protocol helps network manager monitor and control various network entities in TCP/IP internet. Management station invoke SNMP client on their local computer (usually a workstation) and use the client to connect to one or more servers (Management agents) that execute on remote machines. With the extension to IP (Mobile IP) there is a need that proper functioning and performance of three entities, namely Mobile Node, Home Agent and Foreign Agent may be monitored. In this dissertation "Dynamics" implementation of Mobile IP was extended to add support for SNMP. This support for SNMP feature adds a MIB module that expands network monitoring and management capabilities of Foreign Agent . (FA), Home Agent (HA) and Mobile Node (MN) Mobile IP entities. This feature allows one to monitor and manage the performance of these entities in a network in which a Mobile IP subsystem is present using standardized protocol (SNMP) and software tools. The system was developed for Red Hat Linux 7.1 operating system in C programming language. The system was tested on a testbed of machines compromising Pentium IV 2 GHz processors.en_US
