Abstract: The field of the wireless mobile Internet is continuously growing. One of the problems in mapping Internet content to mobile devices is the limited bandwidth and high error rates in mobile networks. Another problem occurs within the mobile devices themselves, which suffer from small display, limited memory, and limited processing power and battery power. Due to this the support of common Internet standards such as HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol), HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) and TCP/IP is difficult. To address these issues, the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) was developed for transmitting and presenting wireless information on mobile handheld devices. In this dissertation, we have implemented a Wireless Internet ,Gateway module that maps a Wireless Session Protocol (WSP) layer's request consisting of binary headers, to the HTTP text headers, and also mapping of response text headers of HTTP layer to the WSP layer's binary headers. This mapping reduces the protocol overhead and increases the efficiency of low bandwidth WAP networks. We have also made a user interface so that request/response mapping through the gateway can be shown.
