Abstract: Specific absorption rate (SAR) has been recognized as one of the most significant variables quantifying the electromagnetic field interaction with human body. In order to establish the safety of mobile/wireless communication, SAR calculations have become important. SAR can be calculated both experimentally and numerically. Finite difference time domain (FDTD) method has been proven to be the most efficient method for finding SAR. Because of its computer storage time requirements and it's simplicity, FDTD is currently most used method for finding SAR. This dissertation describes the FDTD method and it's application to find the energy absorbed in human head. The human head is modeled as two-dimensional cylinder and three-dimensional sphere. The computed results are compared with analytic solutions in two and three dimensions, establishing the validity of the program.
