Today, almost the whole world is connected through various communication and data networks. With the increasing demands of the network users and the advancements in the network technologies the task of network management has become a difficult one. In heterogeneous networking environment a network administrator needs some tools to work with ease, like uniform managing interface and tools to observe the evolution of network resources with time for utilizing them efficiently. The dissertation discusses a CORBA based network-managing environment with the capabilities of managing network state evolution over time. CORBA temporal agents, with time attributes added to managed objects, have been used to work in a heterogeneous environment. A uniform managing interface, with the necessary services to exploit temporal behavior of the network, has been provided to hide the complexities of knowing different underlying network technnologies. The inclusion of time attributes to managed objects provides the facilities to observe the past, manage the present and predict and control the future of network resources. A new approach with mandatory services for network management has been provided and suggestions for using naming service have also been discussed. The discussed architecture has been implemented and tested on a LAN environment. Java programming language is used for implementing different modules and Visigenic 3.2 is used as CORBA ORB.en_US
