Issue Date: 2001
Abstract: This dissertation gives an overview of application and requirement of Video on Demand (VoD) system and simulation study of buffer-based request/reply (RQRP) Pull model, which has been accepted by digital audio-video council (DAVIC) for the delivery of audio-video stream in VoD system. Simulation model has been developed and the performance of two variations of the RQRP protocol, namely half —duplex and full-duplex modes have been evaluated. The simulation results shows that full-duplex RQRP protocol yields better results, especially over high delay networks, in terms of maximum throughput, rate of adapting to the client play-out rate changes and shorter and shorter start time.
