dc.description.abstractCurrently in the Internet, service providers are providing bandwidth guarantees for differentiated services by reserving resources in advance. However, it would be clearly undesirable to reserve resources in advance for future calls, since this would significantly increase the drop rate of least prioritized calls, In this dissertation we tested the use of adaptive priority marking for providing required bandwidth in a differentiated services Internet. In contrast to other ways (reserving the resources in advance) to reach the same target, this scheme does not require any reservations in advance for any connection. This service can be provided only with minimal changes to the network infrastructure. By using the resulting network support it handles the task in the form of priority handling for appropriately marked packets.en_US
