Issue Date: 2001
Abstract: Supporting mobility in ATM based broadband networks with wireless access points poses many technical challenges. One of the most important of these challenges is handoff control. Rerouting on-going connections during handoff process is the most important function of the handoff process. In literature sometimes, rerouting and handoff are used interchangeably. Several rerouting schemes have been proposed in literature, but still there are various issues, which are not addressed by these schemes. We have discussed some of these issues including multicast handoff, and multi-connection handoff. We point out the challenges that can arise during rerouting multiple connections and propose a new rerouting scheme for multi-connection handoff. The performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated for data loss, and handoff latency.
