dc.description.abstractHigh speed data transmission over the subscriber loop has been an active area of research for last several years. The increase in the demand for digital services coupled with continuing speed and complexity advances in the VLSI technology, has led to the development of a set of digital subscriber line technologies for applications in the metallic copper loop plant. These technologies make use of the previously unexploited bandwidth for delivering new digital services over the copper pairs originally engineered for the voice transmission. Discrete multitone(DMT) is a common form of multicarrier modulation(MCM). Data transmission modem employing multicarrier modulation (MCM) was used more than 40 years ago in the Collin's Kineplex modems [1]. KATHRYN digital data modem for use on High-Frequency(H/F) radio also employed multicarrier modulation techniques [2]. Applications of the Discrete Fourier transform to multicarrier data transmission system has been considered by a number of workers. It was later refined to a high performance form by Ruiz, Cioffi and Kasturia [8,10] to take advantage of digital signal processors and Fast Fourier transform(FFT)......en_US
