dc.description.abstractThe recent growth in use of the WWW in the Internet has caused a significant increase in the demand placed on web servers. This increased load results in noticeably longer response times for users. In this dissertation, an approach using multidestination routing in the delivery of web resources is designed and implemented. It will reduce the load placed on servers as well as the networks that connect them. We have analysed issues involved in multidestination routing in the web, especially those related to queuing and scheduling techniques. The implementation of the system is based on the existing WWW client and server architecture. The server process accepts the incoming request and depending on the type of request (i.e. whether it is for cold page or for a hot page) server responds via a unicast or multicast. To implement a multicast delivery system using multidestination routing, HTTP1.0 server has been implemented. This implementation processes the large size graphic and audio files as well as HTML pages found on a web server and a simple text based web server has been, developed. Multicast and non-multicast delivery of pages were compared and the results were plotted. The algorithms proposed were found to be more efficient than the previous works[I] as expected.en_US
