dc.description.abstractMost of the Congestion control algorithms are dealt with messages from a single source to a single destination. But some applications require multicast flows from multiple sources to multiple destinations. For example several closed circuit television stations transmitting audio and video streams to a group of receivers, each of whom can view one or more stations at once and are free to switch from station to station at will. Especially multicasting is required in Internet and multimedia applications. in order to handle this environment Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP) is developed. It is a part of Integrated Services Architecture(ISA) for Internet. RSVP allows multiple senders to transmit to multiple groups of receivers and permits individual, receivers to switch channels freely, and optimizes- bandwidth use while at the same time eliminates congestion. Now ATM networks are being used every where and spanning of IP network applications over ATM is also required . The RSVP explained in this work is capable of providing services over large ATM networks. This is the work in progress and it is still in the research stage. The most of the future applications are associated with multimedia and a lot of work is goingon in this field. In this dissertation the Resource Reservation Protocol is implemented on a 2 dimensional 6X6 mesh network with negative first routing algorithm. The program is written in 'C' and run on UNIX system. The simulation results are presented which suggest that RSVP offers good support for providing real time applications with existing routing protocols.en_US
