Abstract: | In recent year, users and their organisations are becoming more and more dependent on set vices provided by computer networks. As a consequence, protecting users of computer networks against eavesdroppers is becoming more critical. But, the development of necessary security systems is not matching the growing security requirements. In this dissertation, a security system for TCP/IP networks is designed and implemented, based on symmetric cryptography. This security system provides differnt security services like Confidentiality, Digital Signature etc. A symmetric .block algorithm, GOST, has been implemented to perform necessary encryption, decryption operations. The security system is basically a Client/Server model. The client is an interactive application which invokes user sessions and processes received messages. Thy • server accepts, connection requests and messages from other users, responds automatically, if needed. The design of the security system has a network of users and a Security Management Center (SMC). The SMC performs managerial services. The use of security codes to identify services and mechanisms hastens the user sessions and makes the system flexible to add new services and mechanisms, with ease. The security system supports UNIX /LINtUX based as well as WINDOWS based users. |
