dc.description.abstract | Resource Management and routing policies are used for Voice over IP( VoIP) Traffic. The IP networks are used for linking voice traffic between telephony switches. For this we assumed in this dissertation a basic model of an Internet telephony system. A public switch telephone network (PSTN) gateway used as the interface between the circuit switched and IP network segments. The PSTN gateways are connected to the edge routers at an Internet Service Provider. Edge routers are connected to backbone routers through an access networks. In this dissertation we have used the backbone IP network to support an IP integrated services framework. IP endpoints express the Quality of Services (QoS) requirements and traffic characteristics for a voice call using Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP). The routing of the RSVP signaling messages follows the path determined by the IP routing policy. In this work we have evaluated three conventional routing policies i.e. Shortest path Only (SPO), Shortest Available Path (SAP) and Widest Available Path (WAP) and proposed two routing policies i.e. Shortest Available Path with Reservation (SAPWR) and Shortest Path Only with Widest Capacity (SPOWC). We found that the proposed routing policies out forms conventional routing policies with respect to high load and low capacity. | en_US |
