Issue Date: 1993
Abstract: Computer. Networks is an' area that focuses on the study of communication structure-interface, connecting media, access and routing algorithms, flow and error control and related topics. The question of performance is of concern in the design of a local area network for a specific' application. During the past few years, the token-ring technique has become an important technology for local area networking. Token rings have the potential to provide efficient, cost effective, reliable, and versatile communication over a transmission speed of at least two orders of magnitude. This thesis outlines simple techniques to evaluate performance of token ring LANs using simulation. The simulation program was written in 'C' language. Networks studied include token ring, pronet, token ring LAN with integrated voice and data and parallel ring. The evaluation is based on simulation model. 1
