dc.description.abstractShort range guided missile system falls in the category of Navigational homing system. It is basically intended to provide close range defence to ships, battle tanks and important installations. Navigational homing laws form the basis of short range guidance. With the advancement in the field of signal processing and digital control techniques very accurate and highly reliable weapons have been produced by the developed nations. India's constant strive for self reliance and indigenousation drive in the field of short range guided weapon has given shape to the TRISHUL Surface to Air Missile (SAM) system. A brief introduction to the field of short range guided weapon is followed by the description and mathematical analysis of the Navigational homing laws in chapter 1. The basic building blocks of a ship based SAM is explained in detail in chapter 2. This includes the study on tracking radar system and missile. In chapter 3, the mathematical derivation of the guidance computer is carried out. It covers Launch Control System (LCS), Launcher Positioning System (LPS) and Command Generating System (CGS) of the guidance computer. The complete operation of a typical guided missile system is explained in chapter 4. This involves the interaction of various subsystems from the detection of target to the final engagement.en_US
