dc.description.abstractSUB—BAND -CODING_ has emerged as an efficient technique for digitally cod=ing image in terms of the subbands of the total spectrum The technique involves filtering the broad band signal into subbands and encoding each subband independently . In this dissertation details of digital filters and overview of decimation and interpolation is given . Application of Quadrature Mirror Filter (QMF) for coding image in subbands is then discussed The aim has been to focus on the main techniques being- used for design of multirate filter banks and .implementation of subbands without using any complex coding technique. The new coding techniques have been described. Results obtained based on coding simulation for SBC has also been presented.en_US
