dc.description.abstractIn early days, nearly hundred years back, telephony and telegraphy were the only techniques used in telecommunications. In 1930's two techniques appeared; facsimile which transmits the still pictures and copying the same at a remote place, and television, transmitting the live pictures. For. a long time it was a very big challenge to transmit across the Atlantic Ocean. The concept of relaying the signals by means of satellites were developed. Historically, the idea of placing a transmitting and receiving system in a geostationrcyy, orbi+was proposed [ 1 ] . In 1965 early bird was launched and became the INTELSAT satellite. Since then satellites have provided continuous, uninterrupted transmission of all kinds of signals globally. Tremendous research and developments in the field of semiconductors, integrated circuits, computers, and television have resulted valuable services such as video text, electronic mail, computer links and video conferencing etc. Advances in satellite technology have enabled to make very small earth stations which require very small space.......en_US
