dc.description.abstract'IMAGE TRANSFORM CODING had been and still i an area of buzzing research activity, due to its robustness and efficiency. In this dissertation after giving overview of image coding techniques and some details, of the image processing system used the mainthrust is put on transform coding technique. Linear one dimensional transforms are considered first graduating to orthogonal transforms, 2D -transform. Issues .like reconstruction • error optimum bit allocation, Quantization are then considered and,--a set of desirable properties for a transform coder deduced. Theoptimal transform and its drawbacks are discussed before a brief introduction to suboptimal transforms. A new coding • technique DC3T is then considered along with its predecessor DCT. •The results obtained on these two transform coding techniques are •then compared to conclude in favour of DC3T.en_US
