Abstract: At high data transmission rates, the packet transmission time a LAN could become comparable or less than the medium propagation delay. There are several LAN schemes designed to operate at high data rates, among these LAN's one is multichannel local area Networks. The main objective of this work is to study the performance of multichannel local area networks(MLAN' s) . MLAN's use a set of lower data rate parallel buses connected to all stations. MLAN's offer the reliability characteristics typical of bus structured local area networks, while providing a large bandwidth that can be used for data packet transmission. In this dissertation, simulation program has been developed to study the performance of MLAN's. Architecture of MLAN's is explained. It is shown that significant performance improvements are obtained with multichannel option.
