Abstract: Dielectric Resonators have usually been analyzed as energy storage devices, however these have been analyzed as antennas too, but little work has been done in this area as compared to metal antennas. In this dissertation dielectric resonant cavities have been analyzed as antennas. A structure consisting of a cylindrical dielectric resonator. placed on the top of a conducting ground plane has been analyzed for it's resonant frequency and radiation pattern using magnetic wall model, with emphasis on the lowest order mode. Two such antennas have been fabricated with different radius/height ratios of the cylinder. Their resonant frequencies and radiation patterns have been measured. The theoretical results predicated are compared with the experimental results, their agreement (approximately) confirms the validity of the model. Another method using Itoh & Rudokas model has been discussed for computing improved resonant frequency but for second lowest (TE010) mode. A comparison between the two models proves the superiority of I&R model over simple magnetic, wall model.
