Abstract: Object-oriented database systems represent the confluence of ideas from object-oriented proerammin8 languages, which have rich data modeling capabilities and database systems, which provide long-term reliable data storage. Object-oriented database systems are developed-by extending an object-oriented programming language to provide it persistence and other database features. In this dissertation work a persistent C++ system has been developed. For this a preprocessor has been designed and implemented. The preprocessor takes an application program written in persistent C++ and generates an output file that contains appropriate C++ code. This output file .is then compiled with C++ compiler to get an executable file. The preprocessor has been tested with several sample programs and is found to be working properly. An integrated menu driven system has also been constructed which contains a commercial editor, the preprocessor, and a C++ compiler
